About
A zest for food is in my bloodline
Welcome to Zest for the Table! I'm so glad you're here. My name is Dimitra, and this blog is a celebration of Mediterranean food, lifestyle, and the rich family traditions that have shaped my journey in the culinary world.
My love for food runs deep, passed down through generations of my family. From the Mediterranean shores to the family table, food has always been at the heart of our lives. My grandfather, Greek a fisherman, taught me the art of seafood, while my grandmother’s family in the Peloponnese region of Greece farmed wheat and cherries. On the other side of the family, my other grandmother’s side kept alive the craft of butchery with their multi-generational business is Sparti, Greece, and my grandfather’s olive and orange groves still produce the freshest oil we use today.
In the early years, my grandfather came to Canada, where he opened several restaurants. My father and uncle carried on the family’s legacy, owning and managing restaurants for over 30 years. Through their work, I learned not just the technical skills of cooking, but the soul of Mediterranean food: humility, simplicity, seasonality, and connection to the land.
Here at Zest for the Table, I share my passion for reimagining the classic Mediterranean dishes of our past, blending them with fresh ideas while staying true to the values that make this cuisine so special. It's all about honouring the traditions that shaped me, while embracing the joy of good, honest food.
I hope you’ll find inspiration, warmth, and a little zest for your own table.
